Thank you for your engagement. And, your assertion that teachers must be authoritarian is indeed the opposite of what I have argued; however, you haven’t made an argument. I wrote this article because teachers believe they must be authoritarian. I believe this is wrong and I wrote a bunch of words to support this belief and I refered to others that support this belief.
It seems your argument is poor kids need to be told what to do and, again, I disagree, Zeretta Hammond eloquently and with science disagrees and Paolo Freire persuasively and with philosophy and practice disagrees. Given you have introduced economic disadvantage I can say that Nobel laureate Amartya Sen and his capabilities approach to economic development disagrees too. I wrote a series of posts on Capitalism where you can find more details. And finally, to your basic premise that a teacher’s job is to be authoritarian, certainly John Dewey disagrees.
Oh, and, “the liberating tyranny of the classroom.” That’s not a thing.
